CSR Supply Chain Summit: First Session
January 23rd, 2008 by Rich
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I was speaking at the Supply Chain Council’s CSR summit today, and I am happy to report that Max and his group did a great job. With 30 or so in attendance, the presentations and the discussion were really excellent and I think that this forum did a great job of building a platform for discussing some of the issues we as manufacturers, consultants, consumers, and citizens face. While initially my intent to live blog the event (and put reader questions forward), the wireless connection was a pay as you go… and I refuse to pay 200RMB for a wireless connection. So, here are my notes for the first session. Note, check back over the next coupe of days for updates. I have asked for permission to post PPTs, and will do so when given permission.
Session 1:
Carlos Flores of China Center for Labor and Environment: Topic:Smarter Approaches to Corporate Responsibility Presentation File here CSR’s founding in the 1990s was primarily through philanthropy, and then moved into the audit phase where people had to pass exams. This is a perfect model for China given the history of China’s educational system… set up to pass tests but then move onto the next topic. If the goal is to achieve excellence, then meeting a standard or be compliant is not important. In an audit heavy environment, the main focus is compliance, and the main tool is auditing. But is that the right way? Need to look at fundamentals .. Richard Brubaker: Topic: Clean Up or Close Up I thought it would be difficult to type and read my own presentation, so please just download my presentation here. Click here for my presentation
