Greenpeace China March Newsletter: Green Investment

April 16th, 2008 by Rich

Recently I attended a Greenpeace presentation, hosted by the Foreign Correspondent’s Club, where a lot of Greenpease literature was available. One of the first NGOs I became aware of/ passively active in, Greenpeace China is a bit different in China than it is in other places around the world (noticably absent is the Rainbow Warrior, whose role is probably needed on the Yangtze). One of the interesting changes I see is that rather than working on changing consumer behavior and attitudes through nationwide campaigns, they are seemingly limiting themselves to targeting foreign companies and investors through their consulting and research. One newsletter I picked up was their new Green Investment newsletter, and I would suggest anyone interested in clean tech, forestry, or the environment in general pick it up. The first issue, its focus is on China’s consumption of wood products - i.e. its impact on the world’s forests - and there are also interesting articles on the the costs to China’s development and the role of financial institutions who are financing/ investing.
